DEER RESISTANT PLANTS

DEFEND YOUR GARDEN

STOP DEER IN THEIR TRACKS

Deer can be delightful to see and watch! However, we as gardeners, can get slightly frustrated when we see them nibbling on the plantings we’ve worked hard on! The best way to reduce deer damage to your garden is by incorporating plants deer find unappetizing. Here’s a list we’ve compiled of various plants that deer don’t seem to prefer. Understand that no plant is “deer proof”, but some plants have proven to be more “deer resistant”. As many of you know, if hungry enough, deer will be less-picky when feeding.

TIPS

Plant herbs or other strong-scented plants in patches around plants that are very susceptible to deer damage, to deter them away.

Although deer don’t tend to heavily feed on trees, they aren’t picky about which ones to rub their antlers on. Almost all newly-planted trees (6’’ caliper trunks and smaller) are susceptible to antler damage. A deep rub can cause severe damage or potentially even kill a tree. Casey’s offers and recommends protective guards for all new tree plantings.

We’ve found deer repellents such as Bobbex™ effectively deter deer from browsing on their favorite plants! A mixture of all-natural ingredients, Bobbex™ deer repellent spray is safe to use around wildlife, pets and humans.
