Casey’s Garden & Gifts will host a free educational seminar at Casey’s garden center with the topic being on how residents of Hidden Valley can turn problem areas of your yard and your community into beautiful and functional areas. You will learn how you can cut down on lawn maintenance, help control erosion and bring beauty to otherwise wet areas of your yard. All residents of Hidden Valley are welcome to attend, however, this class will be of particular interest to the residents that reside on or near the lake, creeks, intermittent rain channels or anyone that has a problem with standing water in their yards. Unlike water features and ornamental ponds that are meant to retain water, the purpose of wet area plantings is to filter more water into the ground instead of the lake or into storm drains. This in turn will help keep toxic fertilizers and pesticides from entering Hidden Valley Lake. Less standing water also reduces mosquitoes. You will learn creative ways to capture and divert rainwater and which plants thrive in these types of wet areas. Many of these plants will create a valuable habitat for pollinators, birds & butterflies.
Registration Deadline: February 22nd.
